I’ve been a FreeBSD user since the beginning (and 386BSD before that). I became a committer in 1995 for maintaining the FAQ just after the 2.0 release. I’ve dwelt into many areas (including the kernel and the VFS layer a while ago) but focus mainly on some ports and the NTP software (which I maintain now).
I’m the reason why FreeBSD switched to SGML using the Linuxdoc DTD in 1995 because I converted the FAQ to this format. We’re now using the more versatile DocBook/XML format although some documents are still using the SGML DTD.
You can find there all the different papers and presentations I made:
HOWTO
I’m writing some kind of HOWTO-like document explaining how to setup and install a ZFS-only bootable FreeBSD system.
It can be found here, listing both mirror- and raidz-based setups, although the latter is not currently working.
Papers
Distributed VCS in the context of FreeBSD: presented at both EuroBSDCon 2005 and BSDCan 2006
Full BSDCan paper BSDCan slides The EuroBSDCon paper & slides have been superseded by the updated ones for BSDCan.
Recent presentations
As part of the « Autour du Libre » conference in April 2006, set in Brest, FRANCE, I’ve made a presentation about FreeBSD and how it is developed and communication within the project.
